A 26-member board, comprised of trail activists, conservationists,
land use and open space planners, public agency representatives,
and community members, leads the Council. Its composition
reflects the public-private nature of our work with designated
directors from key public partners and representatives of
each county serving. The Council is always seeking new volunteers
for the board and our committees, and welcomes community participation.
The Board of Directors meets
quarterly, and the Executive Committee meets monthly, on the second Thursday

Bill Long
The
Council's Board Chair is Bill Long, a Novato resident and retired
engineering executive who serves on many civic boards in Marin County
relating to parks, open space, and environmental protection. Bill led
the effort on the board to create the Trail Trust, the program to
establish the Ridge Trail on private lands, and is an innovative and
resourceful leader for an activist, hands-on board.
Mary Burns
Serving as the Council's Vice Chair is Mary
Burns, who leads the Sonoma County Regional Parks Department and lives
in Santa Rosa. She brings her deep knowledge and experience in public
land management and political process to the organization, having
previously served as the Director of both the San Mateo County and the
San Francisco parks departments.
